This past weekend saw the return of Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity to the Marcus Performing Arts Center, 929 N. Water St., running Thursday, December 5 – Sunday, December 8, 2024. This year marked the 10th anniversary performance of the play that has become a holiday tradition for many families here in Milwaukee.
This year’s performance lead by production director, Ashley Jordan, focused on bringing the roots of the African American church experience in the storyline. It highlighted the struggle of relationship and relevance in young people and their spirituality. There were two shows were performed just for local schools and churches. Among the many churches whose children’s ministries and choirs attended the shows was Christ the King Baptist Church youth director Lawrence Bell and choir director Angela Green, brought the children’s choir (right photo). If you missed the show this year, make sure you catch it next year as Black Nativity is a great experience for the whole family.
