Gov. Walker announces winner of Read to Lead Development Grant

August 15, 2014

DSC_6745Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is pictured here in the library of the Central City Cyberschool shaking hands with students after making remarks announcing the school was the recipient of a Read to Lead Development Grant of $40,516.  Gov. Walker said the grant “sends a signal that reading is important, which will make teachers even better teachers.” The Central City Cyberschool is an independent public charter school of Milwaukee, which was chartered by the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee in 1999. The school currently has an enrollment of 420 students comprised of four-year-old kindergarten through the eighth grade. The student body comes from the Parklawn neighborhood, which reflects the character of the community. Not a single child is bused. The vision of the school is to bring technology and a learning environment to a community where few residents have access to technology. Gov. Walker is pictured here shaking hands with students of the school, including (from left) Iriayana Smith, Gordan Smith, Victorion Brooks and Gary Merriett, Jr.
