Clarke St. home owner’s passion for gardening is in full bloom

July 23, 2015

DSC_1808Every year since she bought her house at N. 46th and West Clarke Streets, in 1989, Jacqueline Carson has enlarged and diversified her flower gardens. The house and yard are a treat for the eyes as both have been maintained in excellent condition. Jacqueline shrugged off compliments about the house by saying it needed repainting, but her pride in her garden is evident. Now that she has planted most of the flowers, Jacqueline said that the majority of the work is watering and weeding. Her daughter and granddaughter also help out and between the three of them, Jacqueline said the garden requires about 15 hours a week to maintain. Jacqueline, who is a student at MATC working toward a counseling degree, said she inherited her love of gardening from her parents. She is encouraging not just members of her own family, but others on her block who Jacqueline said have begun planting flowers and making the entire block look nicer. “Part of the reason I do this is to glorify God and His creation,” she said. “So many people tell me how peaceful they feel when they come by.”
