From Saturday, August 7 to Sunday, August 8, 2021, Bronzeville Week presented the “7th Annual Sleepover for Education” on the corner of MLK Dr. and North Ave., in front of Pete’s Fruit Market, 2323 N. Dr. MLK Drive. The event collected donated school supplies from passers-by overnight. Those items will go to students at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, so they can start school in the fall on the right note. Those back-to-school items include folders, backpacks, pens, paper, crayons and much more. Among those who volunteered to camp overnight and collect supplies were State Senator Lena Taylor (center), City Attorney Tearman Spencer, County Supervisor Priscilla Coggs-Jones and members of the 5th District Milwaukee Police Department.
