On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, more than 150 advocates from across Wisconsin met in Madison for the Alzheimer’s Association’s 2024 Wisconsin Advocacy Day. These advocates met with legislators at the State Capitol to ask that Alzheimer’s disease and dementia remain legislative priorities in the coming year in support of the more than 120,000 Wisconsinites and their families living with the disease. There was a strong Milwaukee contingency, including many advocates who met at St. Mark AME Church and bussed over to Madison together. The all-day event kicked off at the Best Western Premier Park Hotel, when Governor Tony Evers and First Lady Kathy Evers greeted and encouraged attendees. A legislative panel discussion and other guest speakers illuminated best practices for sharing personal stories with lawmakers and how to ask for support for the following: funding the Wisconsin Dementia Crisis Innovation Grant program; ensuring high-quality care in assisted living facilities; and implementing the recommendations in the Wisconsin State Dementia Plan.
