On Saturday, October 12, 2019, The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Epsilon Kappa Omega Chapter presented Breast Health Day at St. Anns Center for Intergenerational Care Bucyrus Campus, 2450 W. North Ave. The free community event featured Froedtert Memorial Hospital and Medical College of Wisconsin Surgical Oncology professor Dr. Alonzo Walker, MD, FACS who discussed the importance of breast health for women, especially women of color.
There were representatives from All of Us Research Program, UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, Milwaukee Office of Susan G. Komen Foundation, ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Sisters Can Survive, Children’s Community Health Plan, and Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority. There were demonstrations on breast self-exam with breast models by National Black Nurses Association Milwaukee Chapter and information on Team Phoenix with Aurora Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center Dr. Judy Tjoe, as well as personal stories of survival.
