On Monday, January 20, 2025, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®(AKA), Epsilon Kappa Omega Chapter gathered in unity to commemorate the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., by transforming a day off into a “day on” of service to the community.
The event was chaired by Bianca Willingham along with Felita Daniels Ashley and Crissi Bates. Epsilon Kappa Omega Chapter President Isioma Nwabuzor and Vice President Jemina Johnson were also on hand to serve.

The “We Are One” AKA Service Day places a focus on providing critical support to Milwaukee’s most vulnerable populations. Partnering with Repairers of the Breach, a local daytime resource center for unhoused individuals, members provided meals, care packages, and warm clothing to those in need.
In addition, members participated in the Milwaukee Diaper Mission, a targeted effort to support families by distributing diapers, wipes, and other essential baby care items to parents facing financial hardships. This initiative aims to alleviate the burden on struggling caregivers while promoting the health and well-being of Milwaukee’s youngest residents.

“Dr. King’s legacy calls us to action,” said Chapter President Nwabuzor “By working with organizations like Repairers of the Breach and through projects like the Milwaukee Diaper Mission, we hope to bring hope, support, and tangible resources to those who need it most.”
The MLK Day of Service is part of AKA’s broader commitment to social justice and uplifting the community. Members across Milwaukee united to provide hands-on service and reflect on Dr. King’s teachings, striving to bring his vision of equality and compassion to life.
