Young people filled Wick Playfield for the inaugural Milwaukee Public School (MPS) Ultimate Sports Day on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022. MPS Athletics and Milwaukee Recreation hosted this free event for 1st-12th graders to experience new sports and learn fundamentals.
Participants moved through stations around the field, shooting hoops with friends, running hurdles, hitting off the tee, and so much more. Stations included baseball/ softball, cheer, basketball, football, cross country, ultimate frisbee, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field.
This free event introduced young people to many of the 13 sports programs that are supported by the district.
“This was an exciting opportunity to introduce all young people to a variety of sports ahead of the 2022- 23 school year,” said Bobbie Kelsey, Commissioner of Interscholastic Athletics & Academics.
“Sports are such a valuable extension of the classroom. MPS youth and high school athletics programs play a critical role in promoting academic excellence, boosting school and community spirit, and building lifelong skills beyond the playing field. We want as many students to be a part of those opportunities as possible.”
Thanks to everyone who joined us to try a new sport, spend time outdoors, and develop new skills.
