Vaccines help prevent against childhood illnesses such as measles, mumps, chickenpox, polio, and more. Summer is the perfect time to make sure children are up to date on vaccines.
COVID-19 vaccines are also widely available for everyone age 6 months and older. Vaccines are safe and highly effective in protecting against the COVID-19 virus. Immunize now so children are fully vaccinated when school starts.
To reach maximum immunity against COVID-19 for the start of school in fall, children should receive their first dose as soon as possible. Vaccines require two shots at least three weeks apart, and recipients are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the second shot.
MPS early start schools begin class on Monday, August 15. MPS schools on the traditional calendar begin Tuesday, September 6. Make sure your child goes back to school protected from coronavirus and childhood illnesses.
Answers to many questions about COVID-19 vaccines can be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at https://www.cdc.gov/ coronavirus/2019-ncov/ vaccines/recommendations/ children-teens.html, including Myths and Facts about COVID-19 Vaccines.
