On October 7 and October 8, 2016 Mayor Tom Barrett
presented The Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiatives’ “11th
Annual Fatherhood Summit.” The two-day event was
held at Greater New Birth Church, 8237 W. Silver Spring
Drive. This year’s theme was “Planting Seeds to Grow
Stronger Fathers and Families,” and reflected the efforts
of the Fatherhood Initiative to strengthen families in our
great city by supporting the men in our community with
services, and outreach to strengthen them to become
better fathers. Among the ways the Fatherhood Initiative
offers support is through self-improvement workshops,
employment opportunities in and around the city,
driver’s license recovery assessments, child support case
reviews, job training opportunities, education services
(GED, HSED, trades, CDL, etc.), health information
and screenings, expungement supportive services, and
family court services (bankruptcies, child placement,
etc.). The day also featured a special tribute to longtime
fatherhood advocate and radio personality the late Eric
Von. Pictured at the event (from left) are Milwaukee
Fatherhood Initiative co-director Dennis C. Walton, and
Milwaukee Municipal court judge and keynote speaker
Derek Mosley.
