Students looking for summer and year-round work had the chance to visit with dozens of employers, ask questions, fill out applications, and get ready for work at the MPS student job fair on March 14. The event was hosted by the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee as part of the M3 partnership that links UWM and MPS.
To be eligible for the job fair, students were required to be 16 years or older and attend a work readiness session at their school. Work readiness sessions assist teens in developing a resume and elevator speech, preparing for interviews, selecting an interview outfit, and adopting professional behavior needed for the workplace. The sessions are part of expanded efforts to prepare every student for college and career.
Bus transportation for students from more than a dozen high schools was generously provided by the Automotive Dealers Association of Mega Milwaukee (ADAMM) and the Al Hurvis/ ADAMM Education Foundation.
Students chatted with employers that included the fast food and restaurant industry, health care, recreation, entertainment, summer festivals, and a wide range of businesses that depend on teenage workers. In addition to filling out applications and finding out about immediate openings, they also had opportunities to learn more about career options and long-term positions.
