In fall 2018, a number of MPS schools piloted programs to go green. MPS Facilities and Maintenance Services spearheaded the initiative to teach students lifelong habits that will result in a cleaner world. Focus areas included recycling and composting.
Schools established green teams to plan their in-school efforts, motivate students, and keep the program fresh all year long. Milwaukee’s own Advanced Disposal partnered with schools to provide important information about recycling.
To promote green habits and the importance of recycling, student groups were invited to produce videos to motivate students to recycle in school and at home. The winners of the video contest have been selected. Congratulations to three winning schools:
High School: Alexander Hamilton High School
Middle School: H.W. Longfellow School
Elementary School: Lincoln Avenue School
Winners will receive a school-wide pizza party, a field trip to experience recycling first-hand at Advanced Disposal’s recycling center, and a garden patch for school gardening. Congratulations to our winners and all the schools who succeeded in creating a cleaner world!
