MPS Celebrates Black History Month 2026

February 5, 2026

MPS) is celebrating Black History Month! Throughout February, MPS students will take part in projects and performances centered on the contributions of Black Americans. Join us for activities during the Black Lives Matter Week of Action, February 2–6, 2026.

Black History Month is coming alive in Milwaukee Public Schools. Students and staff across the district are honoring the contributions of black Americans who have
helped build our country and promote peace and equality.

Famous names such as Sojourner Truth, Jackie Robinson, Al Jarreau, and Michelle Obama will be woven into classroom activities this month. At all grade levels, teachers will be promoting educational activities that explore the heritage of Black Americans.

Students, families, staff, and the community are invited to listen in as panel discussions take place on topics centered on current issues such as the role of race, Girls
of Color, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and more. Find a complete schedule on our Black Lives Matter Week of Action webpage.

We are proud of the efforts of our schools in bringing Black History Month to life. Watch for stories of our students’ activities throughout February.
