Four MPS schools are approved to pursue IB authorization

July 11, 2019

After countless hours of preparation, four MPS schools will begin the journey toward International Baccalaureate (IB) authorization. Academia de Lenguaje y Bellas Artes (ALBA), Marvin Pratt Elementary School, Gilbert Stuart School, and Morse Middle School will spend the next two to five years implementing the IB program and undergoing evaluations.

ALBA, Pratt, and Stuart are candidate schools for the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), and Morse is a candidate for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). The IB programme offers a rigorous academic curriculum that prepares students for a global society, emphasizes good citizenship, and enhances personal development. The design of IB programs is built on specialized professional development and high levels of collaboration among faculty members.

“This is another wonderful opportunity for the students of Milwaukee to participate in a top-notch program that will impact their futures,” said Superintendent Dr. Keith P. Posley. “IB World Schools share a common philosophy and a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education that is important for our students.”

During the candidate phase, Pratt, Stuart, and Morse will receive customized support from the IB organization, the IB regional office, a consultant who is fully trained in global IB policies, and an MPS IB support consultant. These schools will also have access to the IB online curriculum center, where they can obtain IB publications and teaching materials and participate in online forums with others around the world.

Throughout the candidacy process, students will engage in learning that encourages them to ask challenging questions, think critically, develop research skills, develop multilingual skills, and use their learning to make positive changes in their communities and the world.

Enrollment is open across the district for fall. Contact a school or visit mpsmke.com/enroll.
