Deviled egg winner to be featured at Vincent fundraiser

September 20, 2018

Pictured are the participants and judges for the Vincent High School event

Eggshells were cracking as Vincent High School culinary arts students prepared their masterpiece deviled eggs for a panel of local celebrity judges this week. The stakes were high, with the winning egg moving on to be a featured appetizer in Vincent’s first-ever farm-to-table fundraiser, “Growing to Our Full Potential” on September 20, 2018. After much deliberation, the judges’ results for the best deviled egg were sealed in an envelope and will be revealed at the fundraiser.

Celebrity judges weren’t yolking around as they sniffed, sampled, analyzed, and tasted six different deviled egg entries. Judges agreed it was a tough call and that all entries were egg-cellent, but they weren’t chicken to declare a winner. The judging panel included Tyler Maas, Milwaukee Record; Kyle Cherek, Wisconsin Foodie host; Daryl Burns, Principal at Vincent High School; Bobby Tanzilo, OnMilwaukee.com; Kevin Sloan, Executive Chef at Pabst Theater Group; and Tarik Moody, 88Nine Radio Milwaukee DJ and producer/host of the food and culture podcast “This Bites.”

Tickets are still available for Vincent’s farm-to-table fundraiser on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Vincent High School. The event will feature a surprise menu of an array of appetizers showcasing food grown and raised at the school in combination with locally sourced products. All appetizers will be prepared and served by our students. Eggs for the event come directly from the flock of chickens housed in Vincent’s own working chicken coop.

Vincent is the only school in Milwaukee with a curriculum based on agriculture, an essential industry that shows steady growth and rapid advances in technology. To prepare students for careers in this field with high job security, Vincent High School offers pathways in Agribusiness, Animal Science, Culinary Arts, Environmental Science, Food Science, and Horticulture Science. Hands-on education is supported through experiences in the school’s large greenhouse, culinary lab, and barns that are home to sheep, goats, a horse, and chickens.

Tickets are $25.00 per person and can be purchased in advance at the school or at the door.

Vincent High School of Agricultural Sciences is located at 7501 N. Granville Road in Milwaukee.
