Alexandria Harris receives Early Career Educator Award

July 5, 2018

This spring, 59 teachers were honored with the Early Career Educator Award by the Wisconsin Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (WACTE). Alexandria Harris, a second-grade bilingual teacher at Academia de Lenguaja y Bellas Artes (ALBA) in Milwaukee, was selected for this recognition. The awards were presented during a ceremony at Monona Terrace in Madison.

This award is presented to an outstanding educator within the first three years of her/his professional career. The award recipient is selected based on the positive impact she/he has on schools or communities; innovation in designing learning experiences; and/or advocacy for students.

Alexandria’s nomination for the award highlighted her character and commitment to teaching. “Alexandria is an outstanding teacher who advocates for students by immersing herself in their education. During her short tenure at her school, Alexandria has made a positive impact by getting involved with various learning opportunities for her students as well as building committees. Alexandria’s school administration speaks highly of her. She successfully completed the MPS Project METRO residency program at James Whitcomb Riley School in partnership with Cardinal Stritch University.”

The Wisconsin Association of Colleges for Teacher Education facilitates deep consideration of issues related to teacher effectiveness and student learning in Wisconsin. The organization collaborates to promote research- based standards and policies for professional educator development. The Early Career Educator Award is sponsored by the Meemic Foundation.

On behalf of the entire MPS family – congratulations, Alexandria!
