A woman lands a dream job at a powerful tech company called the Circle, only to uncover a nefarious agenda that will affect the lives of her friends, family and that of humanity.
THE BUZZ: Writer Dave Eggers is known for his seductive stories of virtuous loners taking on evil systems. The Circle is a high-tech, big-budget version of the wonted Eggers fable. This is a movie very much of our moment, tapping into the things we celebrate – inspiring Ted-esque talks, women in tech, knowledge sharing – as well as the things we fear – corporate overreach, universal surveillance, and the loss of privacy and individual freedom. – Kiran
Finding himself dumped after 25 years of marriage, a man who made a career of seducing rich older women must move in with his estranged sister, where he begins to learn the value of family.
THE BUZZ: The push to make Eugenio Derbez a household name in the US begins with this comedy that will hopefully build on the success of Instructions Not Included, which made $100+ million worldwide and has an English-language remake in development.
A young street magician (Jacob Latimore) is left to care for his little sister after their parents passing and turns to illegal activities to keep a roof over their heads. When he gets in too deep, his sister is kidnapped and he is forced to use his magic and brilliant mind to save her.
THE BUZZ: I’m unsure if I’ll be charmed or duped by this Jason Blum-backed indie drama that flirts with the superhero world and features well-received performances by Jacob Latimore and Dulé Hill. I do know that I tend to gravitate toward under-the-radar movies that have mixed reviews, and Sleight has them to spare. Also, director J.D. Dillard has been eyed to potentially handle the long-gestating remake of The Fly as this movie has generated some attention. – Arno
A family man’s chance encounter with a conspiracy-obsessed drifter leaves him on the run from the police and an impending event known as The Inversion.
When Eyal finishes the week of mourning for his late son, his wife urges him to return to their routine but instead he gets high with a young neighbor and sets out to discover that there are still things in his life worth living for.
THE BUZZ: Oscilloscope Laboratories, the distributor of the acclaimed ” stoner shiva tragicomedy” from Asaph Polonsky, has the promotional campaign of the year: They’re giving away free marijuana with a sweepstakes in the states where weed is legal.
THE BUZZ: We’re totally going to watch this movie despite the fact that story-wise it doesn’t feel as contemporary as it could; instead, it reminds us of the Jenny/Marina situation from the first season of “The L Word” — and that was 13 years ago now.
When a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of terrorism and a betrayal of those closest to him, the crew face trials that will test them as never before.
Venturing into the wilds of China, “Born in China” captures intimate moments with a panda and her growing cub, a young golden monkey who feels displaced by his baby sister, and a mother snow leopard struggling to raise her two cubs.
Desperate to pay the bills and come through for their loved ones, three lifelong pals risk it all by embarking on a daring bid to knock off the very bank that absconded with their money.
