Black Thought – Do your shopping habits impede Black business development?

November 11, 2013

How are you aiding the development of black-owned and operated businesses in your community? Does the car you’re driving come from a black car dealership? Will the gas you put in your car tank come from a black service station owner? How often have you purchased food from a black-owned supermarket? Did the clothes and shoes you’re wearing come from a black department store owner? Do black people manufacture and sell the cell phones, computers, iPads® or other electronics that you’re using? While you are going about your everyday business, how much money will you be spending with “Caucasians, Jewish, Italian or Arab” communities where economic power is really being built? If we really want to change conditions in the black community, we must begin by changing our thinking about where we reside. Fundamentally, we must change our thinking in order to change our destiny. What role will you play?
