YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee to Lead
Let’s Move! Outside Summit for Second Year
Partners with Other Local Organizations on Let’s Move! Initiative
MILWAUKEE – (February 2, 2018) – The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee will lead the
Let’s Move! Outside Summit for a second year, on Monday, February 5 from 9am to noon at
the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. The event is part of the YMCA’s commitment to the
Let’s Move! Initiative that then-First Lady Michelle Obama started in 2010.
“This Summit brings together leaders in conservation, education, recreation and service who
are committed to connecting children, youth and families to outdoor recreation and play,”
said Shanee’ Jenkins, Vice President of Social Responsibility and Strategic Partnerships at
the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee. “The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee is proud to
serve with our community partners in engaging the next generation of outdoor stewards,
and ensuring we all have access and opportunity to connect with nature.”
Let’s Move! is a comprehensive initiative, launched by the then-First Lady, dedicated to
solving the problem of obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up
healthier and able to pursue their dreams.
The YMCA of the USA and the National League of Cities (NLC) joined to coordinate efforts to
bridge the growing disconnect between young people and the great outdoors by creating
meaningful connections to nature through four pillars: play, learn, serve and work.
Local community partners participating in the summit and part of the Let’s Move! initiative
include Milwaukee County Parks, Milwaukee Recreation Department, Schlitz Audubon Nature
Center, the U.S. Forest Service and The Urban Ecology Center – Washington Park.
