Pastor Wright hopes book will inspire others not to give up their faith in health battles
In 2011, Pastor Lloyd W. Wright, Sr., a Milwaukee native and Pastor of Healing Grace Baptist Church, celebrated his 50th birthday and as part of a New Year’s resolution to take better care of himself, he underwent a precautionary colonoscopy at the recommendation of his physician. He was shocked when the results indicated that he had colon cancer.
Pastor Wright would eventually be diagnosed with colon cancer two more times, but he was encouraged immediately after each diagnosis as the Holy Spirit revealed to him that cancer would not claim his life. He underwent three surgical procedures and chemotherapy. After the third round of surgery during chemotherapy in November 2016, Pastor Wright suffered a stroke which caused temporary amnesia. Throughout his eight-and-a-half year battle with illness, Pastor Wright relied on scripture and prayer to help bring his cancer into remission and complete the exhausting physical therapy program necessary to regain the ability to walk, read, drive and write, among other challenges.
“I wanted to provide hope and help to others who have been diagnosed with cancer or other serious illnesses,” Pastor Wright said. “I wanted to show others that a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence. Recalling and writing about my experience also helped my recovery after I suffered the stroke.”
He has recently published a book about his ordeal titled Fighting for My Life: How I Used the Word of God in My Battles with Illness. The book will be available to the general public for the first time during the Healing Grace Annual Prayer Breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at St. Martin DePorres Fellowship Hall, 128 West Burleigh Street. The breakfast requires a ticket purchase. Those wishing only to purchase an autographed copy of the book can arrive at 9:00 a.m. for the book signing.
