On Sunday, August 18, 2024, the Milwaukee Brewers paid tribute to the 1923 Milwaukee Bears and the rich history of the Negro Leagues with the Annual Negro Leagues Tribute Game (NLTG). A pre-game ceremony honored the impact of the Negro Leagues with a meaningful “Pass the Bat” ceremony (top photo, from left) with Dennis Biddle, Larry Hisle, Blake Perkins and RBI Athlete Matthew Duncan. The “Barrier Breakers” traveling exhibit, was on loan from the Negro League Museum. The exhibit will be housed at American Family Field from August 16 – 25 and explores the connections of African American baseball history to Hispanic cultures, communities and countries. Pictured are Quinton Berry, Brewers 1st base coach and Negro League player Dennis Biddle; Dennis Biddle and Brewers Community Foundation Executive Director Cecelia Gore; Fellowship Open Director Billy Young, Negro league players Dennis Biddle and Don Porter; former Milwaukee Brewer Player Greg Vaughn; Negro League players James Cobbin and Nathan “Sonny” Weston; and Founder and Chairman of the Board of the Milwaukee Fellowship Open John Daniels, Jr.; Quinton Berry, Brewers 1st base coach catching for Dennis Biddle; and (bottom photo) Negro League players Dennis Biddle, Don Porter, Nathan “Sonny” Weston and James Cobbin.
