It’s down to Houston, Miami Beach and Milwaukee.
The Democratic National Committee on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 named four cities as finalists to host the party’s 2020 national convention. Denver was among them but officials there immediately withdrew that city’s bid, citing scheduling conflicts.
The announcement comes just two days after the deadline to submit official bids. New York, Atlanta, San Francisco and Birmingham, Alabama ultimately did not compete.
Alex Lasry, a senior vice president with the Milwaukee Bucks and chairman of Milwaukee’s bid committee, spoke to WISN 12 NEWS on Monday and pointed to six reasons why the city is ideal to host the convention: affordability, ease of transit, compact arena district, experience with other big-name events, temperate July weather and political interest.
The 2020 convention, scheduled for July 13 through July 16, would draw an estimated 50,000 attendees and have a $200 million economic impact, Lasry said.
The 2016 DNC convention was held in Philadelphia.
