Supervisor Priscilla E. Coggs-Jones, and Steven Butler along with the Coggs, Butler, Young, and Jones families, celebrated the 16th birthday of Solomon Kingston Coggs-Butler on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. More than 100 family members and friends attended the celebration.
As a member of Holy Redeemer Institutional COGIC, Solomon was honored as a Young King—raised to understand his history, walk with pride, and move with confidence. His accomplishments include, an Honor roll sophomore at Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy, a NORI Award honoree for community service, an active participant in community clean-ups and the MLK Back-to-School Festival, a Junior Varsity basketball player and AAU Chapman athlete, and a dedicated helper with chores at home and a loving son, grandson, nephew, and friend.
The program for youth and families opened with a prayer led by Solomon’s Grand Uncle, Kwabena Falson. Guests enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Nana Elizabeth M. Coggs, which included greens, spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, BBQ pork, fried chicken, pizza, and cupcakes.
“Solomon is the embodiment of our family’s legacy—faith, family, food, and freedom,” said his mother Supervisor Coggs-Jones.
