On Friday, August 16, 2024, Outreach Community Health Centers (OCHC), the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), Froedtert Health, and Children’s Wisconsin hosted a ribbon cutting to celebrate their partnership in the development and operation of Wisconsin’s first Teaching Health Center, which facilitates a new family medicine residency, located at Outreach Community Health Centers on Milwaukee’s northwest side – the North Side Milwaukee Health Centers Family Medicine Residency.
The program will train and graduate 14 residents annually, with 42 resident physicians enrolled concurrently. While the residency will be housed at Outreach Community Health Centers, it also leverages the expertise of the family medicine faculty of the MCW and partners with Froedtert Hospital and Children’s Wisconsin for required hospital rotations. The goal is to expand the North Side Milwaukee Health Centers Family Medicine Residency to other Federally Qualified Health Centers on Milwaukee’s north side. The residency is spearheaded by two Milwaukee north side native family medicine physician leaders – Milwaukee Health Service Inc. (MHSI) Dr. Tito Izard, MD and MCW Residency Program Director and Vice Chair of Graduate Medical Education, Department of Family & Community Medicine Camille Garrison, MD.
