The Milwaukee Community Journal and The Dr. Terrance Thomas Memorial Scholarship Fund hosted their awards celebration “Diamonds and Discoveries,” on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at the Italian Conference Center. Featured were an outstanding group of citizens and community thought leaders who were recognized for their roles in building better communities.
This year’s honorees included Sheriff Denita Ball (Milwaukee County); Diane Beckley Milner (Alzheimer’s Association); Marci Boucher (Independence First); Janette Braverman (Leaders Leaving Legacies); Chytania Brown (Employ Milwaukee); Jackie Q. Carter (City Of Milwaukee); County Executive David Crowley (Milwaukee County); John Daniels, III (MKEFellows); Jasmine Deacon (Pearls For Teen Girls); Natasha Dotson (Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative); Karen Dotson Owens (All Of Us/ Medical College Of WI); Lynne Dixon-Speller (Edessa School Of Fashion); Jim Gaillard (Ezekiel CDC/ Project Hope); Edna Hudson-Kinzey, MSN, ED, RN (MKE Chapter National Black Nurses Assoc.); Joan Johnson (Milwaukee Public Library); Lynnea Katz-Petted (Revitalize Milwaukee); Tony Kearney (Northcott Neighborhood House); Michele Le Bourgeois (Milwaukee Health Services, Inc.); Chris Harris Morse (North Avenue Market); James Mosley (The Alma Center); Terry Murphy (Artworks For Milwaukee); Gerard Randall (Republican National Convention); Sharon Robinson (City Of Milwaukee, retired); Stacia Thompson, EDD (Sherman Phoenix); Sandra Underwood, Ph.D. (Healthy Eating And Active Living); and Bridget Whitaker (Safe & Sound). In addition to the community awards the Dr. Terrence Thomas Scholarship Fund chose ten youth from neighborhoods often described as “underserved;” each received a $2000 stipend for their college education.
