
The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors held its annual Black History Month celebration during the February board meeting on Thursday, February 6, 2025, The meeting was kicked off with a program coordinated by the Board of Supervisors’ Black Caucus, in line with this year’s national theme of “African Americans and Labor.” It included a traditional libation ceremony and the singing of the Black National Anthem “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,” remarks from Supervisors, and the presentation of citations to community members for their contributions to labor.

The keynote speaker, SEIU Local 73 President Dian Palmer, was invited by Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson and was introduced by Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley. The highlight of the event was the local leaders who were honored with citations. They included Bria Burris, Rev. Greg Lewis, State Senator LaTonya Johnson, Renae Booker, Shelia Knox, Amos Owens, Joanne Williams, Mike Brown, Sheilla Cochran, Crystal Ealy, Adrian Gibbs, Thomas Mc- Callum, Sharon and Larry Adams, Aziz Abdullah, Calvin Averheart, Margaret Burrell, Pamela K. Bell, Andre Lee Ellis, Dr. LaKeisha Myers, Elliott Torrence, Tonda Thompson, Rev. Dr. Demetrius K. Williams, Judge Lena Taylor, Venice Williams, Corry Joe Biddle, Beth Ridley, Dynasty Caesar, Samuel Sims, Vaun Mayes, and the Milwaukee Chapter of Black Trade Unionists.
