On Sunday, February 27, 2022, Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church celebrated their 85th Church Anniversary at their sanctuary at 1345 West Burleigh St. The theme for the event was “Inspired by the past, Imagining the future,” from Haggai 2:9. The guest preacher for the event was Greater Mount Eagle Missionary Baptist Church Pastor and Wisconsin General Baptist State Convention President Reverend Keith T. Evans (lower, right photo). Metropolitan was found in February 1937 originally meeting at O’Bee Funeral Home, 9th and North Ave. In April 1968, the congregation moved to its current location. Over its 85 years the church has had some impressive leadership including Rev. E.M. Kelly, Sr., Rev. Willie D. Wanzo, Sr., and now their current Senior Pastor Rev. Brandle C. Morrow, Sr., (bottom photo, right). As part of the celebration a number of awards and proclamations were given to the church, including one from interim Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson (top photo, left).
