On Saturday, September 14, 2019, Ascension Wisconsin hosted its first ever “Medical Mission at Home,” at North Division High School, 1011 West Center St. The term “medical mission” often refers to volunteer caregivers who travel to other countries to provide medical services. The Ascension Wisconsin Medical Mission at Home does the same thing for neighbors in need, right here in our own community. The Medical Mission at Home offers spiritually centered care to improve the health of our neighbors, friends and any one who may find it difficult to access healthcare. More than 500 volunteers from all over the community offered registered attendees free medical exams, dental care, medicine, lab testing, imaging and mammograms, foot washing and podiatry screenings, specialty care, spiritual care, and follow-up services.
Among those volunteering were members of the Milwaukee Urban League including President and CEO Dr. Eve Hall (top photo, from left); Ascension Vice President of Medical Affairs O’Rell (Ron) Williams M.D.; Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Community Outreach Coordinator Penelope Stewart; Milwaukee Common Council President Ashanti Hamilton; and Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital nurse Julia Means, RN.
