Human Trafficking Taskforce hosts ‘8th Annual Trafficking Awareness Day’ event

On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, the Human Trafficking Taskforce of Greater Milwaukee (HTTFGM) hosted their 8th Annual Trafficking Awareness Day event at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, 220 E. Pittsburgh Ave. The event was held to bring to light the issue of human trafficking.

The event was hosted by Dana World-Patterson and Maddy Riordan; MC’d by LaShawndra Vernon; and featured survivors of human trafficking. The event also included spoken word poetry by LaKetta Caldwell; a speech by UWM law student Bria Dorsey; and remarks by State Senator Lena C. Taylor, Office of Violence Prevention Executive Director Reggie Moore, and HTTFGM Policy and Legislation Director Jay Reinke.

Also part of the event was the presentation of the 2019 Martha Love Trailblazer Award which was presented by Martha Love and Jay Reinke to Milwaukee Police Department’s Lt. Dawn Jones. The event wrapped with a Solutions of Hope discussion panel featuring Inner Beauty’s Deanne Lawson; Fresh Start Learning Academy’s Nancy Yarbrough; Milwaukee Academy’s Dana Dorn; Exposed’s Natalie Hayden; and Grateful Girls’ Chandra Cooper.
