An Editorial Message from Harold D. Turner, Sr.

Black people in America have shown the power of their voice in record numbers in the 2024 Presidential election. In fact, our people play a vital role in determining the outcome. There are many reasons for us to exercise the power of our vote: Equality in healthcare, housing and homeownership, strengthening gun laws, reproductive rights, social security, and immigration are just a few of the critical issues on the ballot. Let’s talk about the history of our ballot. The right to vote was not just handed to us – it was fought for, bled for, and earned through generations of our ancestors. This presidential election illustrates how serious we are as a black community. Black people in Milwaukee have lived through housing discrimination and redlining, educational and job inequality, lack of access to the healthcare system, and lack of dignified care for our babies and our seniors – the time is now to change all that. Through our vote in this presidential election, we can show how much these issues mean to the black community in Milwaukee. Our nation is watching, and black people in America are rising to the occasion.
