The Wisconsin Department of Revenue administers the Unclaimed Property Program in Wisconsin to connect people with their unclaimed property. The Department tries to match unclaimed property with its owner through tax record matching and newspaper advertisements. If the content of safety deposit boxes have not been claimed, then state law requires the Department to sell the unclaimed property at public auction within three years.
