On Thursday, April 30, 2026, Black Child Development Institute (BCDI) Wisconsin “Ride Into Literacy” Gala brought together community leaders, families, and supporters for an inspiring evening at the Harley-Davidson Museum garage event space. The event celebrated the power of literacy while raising critical support for programs that uplift children and families across the region.

Guests were treated to a dynamic lineup of entertainment throughout the evening, including a live painting experience by Malcom McCrae, a moving musical performance by Grammy Award-winning cellist Malik Johnson, and vibrant sounds by DJ LoLo that kept the energy high.

The program was skillfully hosted by Derrica Williams alongside BCDI Kid Champions Brixton Imler and Sophia and Penelope Kirchner, whose presence highlighted the importance of youth voice and leadership in advancing literacy efforts.

A special highlight of the evening was the live artwork created by Malcom McCrae. Three original pieces were generously sponsored by Cory Nettles, Rachel Greer, and Gerard Randall. These works will be permanently displayed in BCDI Wisconsin’s new office space located at 4295 West Bradley Road, serving as a lasting symbol of the community’s investment in literacy and opportunity.

The success of the evening was made possible through the generous support of sponsors and partners, including HSA Bank, Shaka Smart and Maya Smart, Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Paradise Funeral Home, Brewers Community Foundation, Generation Growth, WISCAP, Landmark Credit Union, Wisconsin Early Childhood Association, Children’s Wisconsin, Living Made Easy, Office of African American Affairs, U.S. Bank, Celebrate Children Foundation Inc., Festus Auto Sales, and many dedicated community supporters.

The community can continue to support BCDI Wisconsin’s efforts by participating in the silent auction at https://givebutter.com/c/BCDIWI2026/auction and by making a donation at www.bcdi-wisconsin.org.
