Hundreds of volunteers spent the morning of Saturday, August 25, 2018 cleaning up trash as part of “Big Clean MKE,” a citywide cleanup effort was a part of Hip Hop Week MKE.
The event was in memory of Greg “Ziggy” Zyszkiewicz a city of Milwaukee inspector who was shot and killed while on the job in March 2017.
“Greg loved his city, and I love this city, and I hear a lot of people say bad things about Milwaukee. I love this city. I think it’s a good city. And the people in the community, all of you how you’ve touched my family You haven’t forgotten Greg. That means a lot,” said Greg’s widow Olha Zyszkiewicz.
Alderman Russell Stamper helped organize this event. He wants it to become an annual volunteer opportunity.
“We want to make sure the community takes pride in their neighborhood and the first way and the best way to do that is make sure it looks good. You have to have a clean neighborhood to feel proud of your neighborhood,” Stamper said.
