On Saturday, November 2, 2019, the Wisconsin Black Historical Society and Museum hosted a special memorial celebration/repast honoring the life and works of Mildred Harpole (inset) at the Museum on 2620 W. Center St. Many community organizations, religious leaders, politicians, and close friends came out to share their stories and give tributes about one of Milwaukee’s tireless community organizers and activists.
Many city and county leaders presented proclamations and awards to Mildred’s family including Milwaukee County Board Members Marcelia Nicholson (left) and Supreme Moore Omokunde (right), who presented a proclamation to Mildred’s husband community leader Reuben Harpole (center).
Others who were on hand to remember Mildred were State Senator Lena Taylor, Milwaukee Urban League President and CEO Dr. Eve Hall and many more. Mildred Harpole was a driving force in our community and she will be greatly missed.
