On Saturday, June 1, 2019, The African American Eliminating Health Disparities Institute and the Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin (BHCW) hosted its “15th Annual Walk for Quality Health.”

The annual event each year strives to raise awareness about health issues and disparities in our community as well as serve as fundraiser for the Black Health Coalition, so that they can continue to bring many vital health programs our community needs. The race started at the Milwaukee Urban League, 435 W. North Ave., and ended at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society, 2620 W. Center Street. This year’s theme was “Walking Against the Maltreatment of Children,” and focused on efforts to end the physical, sexual, and emotional abuse of children.

At the end of the line, participants were treated to lunch and several informative speakers including, BHCW President and CEO and former Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia McManus (left photo); and BHCW African American HIV/AIDS Program and Family Fatherhood Program Coordinator Jim Addison (center photo); as well as many informative resource booths.

This event was co-sponsored by Milwaukee Health Services, Inc., United Healthcare, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin, All of Us Research Program (right photo) and Gilead Sciences, Inc.
