Wisconsin State Fair offers family fun and savings

Each year for 168 years, the Wisconsin State Fair has welcomed a diverse group of visitors to celebrate summer fun and Wisconsin’s rich agricultural heritage. The fair will be held this year from August 1-11, 2019, with family affordability foremost among the many attractions. Through June 30, 2019, admission tickets will be on sale for $8 at the Fair Park ticket office, and through either the wistatefair.com and or etix.com websites, and at local Sentry stores. This represents a discount of $6 off the regular daily admission fee.

Tickets are available for the fair’s Spin City amusement ride area with 40 ride and game ticket vouchers for $22 through June 30. This represents a saving of nearly 50 percent compared to individually purchased tickets. All rides and games in SpinCity utilize a ticket system that requires 3-6 tickets each. During the Fair, individual tickets are available for $1 each at any SpinCity Ticket Booth along with 25 ticket sheets for $25 and 40 ticket sheets for $30. SpinCity features more than 50 amazing rides and attractions. Thirty fun games also await adults and children alike, complete with plenty of opportunity to win prizes.

Enjoy savings of more than $300 with nearly 90 coupons in the bargain coupon book available for just $4 and a six-pack of the famous Wisconsin State Fair cream puffs to go for $18. Both offers are available through July 31. The Milwaukee County Libraries’ Summer Reading Program allows teens to earn free State Fair admission upon completion of the reading program. The fair also includes a number of daily specials such as:

• Aug. 1 is Wells Fargo $2 Day. Admission is just $2 when you donate at least two cans of pears or peaches or make a cash donation to benefit the Hunger Task Force until 4 p.m.

• Aug. 2 is Celebrate Wisconsin Day. Those with an out-of-state ID can buy two adult admission tickets for $14.

• Aug. 5 is Kohl’s Family Value Day. Admission tickets are only $6 and youth 11 and younger are free until 6 p.m.

• Aug. 6 is Crazy Grazin’ Day. Fairgoers can sample a variety of Fair foods available at more than 40 food vendors who offer smaller sizes of favorite items at reduced prices.

• Aug. 7 is Meijer Day. Present a Meijer receipt of $30 or more dated June 7-Aug. 7, and receive $4 off the price of one adult admission ticket until 6 p.m.

• Aug. 11 is Miller High Life Veterans & Military Recognition Day. All veterans, military personnel and up to three family members receive free admission. Limit four admissions per military ID.

There are 30 free entertainment stages located throughout the Fair, including The Associated Bank Amphitheater which will host a free concert featuring the Prince Experience on opening night, August 1. There are creative activities for families in the Kohl’s Activity Zone. Displays of Wisconsin’s historic events and conservation efforts at Exploratory Park. Lots of displays celebrating Wisconsin’s agricultural roots at Compeer Financial Discovery Barnyard, Dairy Lane Exhibit and the Farm & Family Building. Information about marine wildlife and conservation is available along with an entertaining, free, 30-minute Sea Lion Splash Show and free daily pig races at Saz’s Racing Pigs Arena.

On the Main Stage presented by the Potawatomi Hotel and Casino, The Isley Brothers & The Commodores will be featured on Saturday, August 10. Tickets for Main Stage concerts range from $ 29- $49. The ticket price includes the daily Fair admission fee if purchased prior to entering the fair.

Along with its famous cream puffs, the Wisconsin State Fair has a well-earned reputation for unique and unusual foods, which is why The Sporkies, an annual food competition presented by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, will return for the seventh year. Each year eight finalists are selected from dozens of entries, and a panel of celebrity judges choose the recipients of three Golden Spork Awards during the Fair at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7 on the Associated Bank Amphitheater.
