On Sunday, September 15 and 16, 2018, the Nefertari African Dance Company (NADC) hosted its 50th Year Anniversary at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society, 2620 W. Center St. The weekend events included multi-cultural dance workshops, and a gala event.
The Nefertari Dance Company was founded in 1968 at the North Division High School by teacher and coach the late Sarah Lee Grant. It provided for young people for young people of African descent an avenue of expression and pride in the culture of their ancestors.
In 1997 NADC left North Division High School to become a community wide program, under the direction of Marilynn Douglas, a North Division Alumna. The group has received national acclaim and has performed at major events all over the country.
