On Saturday, June 23, 2018, The Milwaukee Brewers celebrated the life of the late Davey “Nellie” Nelson( inset), who passed away on April 22, 2018, by renaming the FOX Sports Wisconsin stage where Nelson reported pre- and post-game shows as “Nellie’s Corner” in his honor. A memorial plaque was placed at the stage to formally rename it.
Nelson was a Major League All-Star infielder for the Indians, Senators, Rangers and Royals in the late 1960s to ’70s, as well as an outfield instructor and first base coach for the Brewers in 2001 and 2003; and later a FOX Sports Wisconsin analyst. Also during the recent Brewers-Cardinals series from June 21-24, Brewers players and coaches honored Nelson with a “Nellie” memorial patch on their jersey sleeves, and on June 23, all proceeds from the Brewers Community Foundation 50-50 Raffle benefited Open Arms Home for Children in South Africa, a charity that has always been close to Nelson’s heart.
