The 2018–19 school year has officially begun! Students in MPS high schools, middle schools, and select elementary schools were back in the classroom Monday, August 13, 2018. Interim Superintendent Dr. Keith P. Posley, members of the Milwaukee Board of School Directors, and others welcomed students at Audubon Technology and Communication High School and Middle School with a drumline, bells, and cheers.
Principal Leon Groce, Dr. Posley, members of the Board, and a representative of the teacher’s union offered remarks outlining their commitment to students, staff, and families. Dr. Posley and his team then visited Alexander Hamilton High School to welcome students and staff and to wish them a great year.
As the 2018-19 school year begins, Dr. Posley is focused on core instruction – reading, writing, and mathematics – and attendance. District efforts are built around the Five Priorities for Success:
• Increasing academic achievement and accountability
• Improving district and school culture
• Developing MPS staff
• Ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency
• Strengthening communication and collaboration
Additional focus areas for the 2018–19 school year include:
• Ambitious Instruction Plan
• Attendance Campaign
MPS schools on the traditional calendar (most elementary schools) will begin Tuesday, September 4. Families who have questions about start dates should contact their child’s school.
