On Saturday, July 15, 2018 , the Grant family honored their family matriarch, Mrs. Carnell Grant, during her 90th birthday celebration. She was joined by her family, friends, New Covenant Baptist Church family, and Juneau Fidelity Temple #247 of the Elks at Devon Seafood & Steak in Glendale to recognize her lifetime accomplishments. Mrs. Grant was the co-owner of Grant’s Cleaners where she worked as a seamstress during the mid-1950’s until mid-1980s. She also worked as a licensed practical nurse at County General Hospital in the 1970s.

Mrs. Grant is a lifetime member of the Elks and wrote articles in the Milwaukee Courier in the 1960s as the “Elks reporter.” In 1996, Mrs. Grant authored a book of poetry about her life experiences entitled, “The Poetic Diary of Connie Grant,” which earned national accolades. One of her poems named “East of the Sunrise” was published in the National Library of Poetry’s Anthology. A second poem, “If You Have It, Share It,” was published in the Famous Poets Society’s Anthology and described as one of the most famous poems of the 20th century.
