On Saturday, May 19, 2018, as part of the 50th Anniversary of the March on Milwaukee, the celebration of the Open Housing Marches of 1967-68, the city of Milwaukee presented special awards to two of the participants who helped drive the movement at a awards ceremony held at North Division High School. The two recipients were veteran marcher and former NAACP commando Fred Reed and “mother of the movement” Inez Miller Herzer.
